Second up in my series of repurposing circuit boards is Blizzard.
This uses the same circuit layout as Go Fly A Kite, but most of the components values are changed. The result is a distinctly different frequency response (GFAK is more clean-tone oriented, Blizzard will gladly play with the nastiest of fuzzes), much greater range of repeats (goes into self-oscillation, from a gentle hum to a punch in the face), and much longer delay times. Despite the circuit board, when in the shorter range, it sounds more like Air without the fuzz.
The longest delay time (about three seconds) works almost like a dirty looper. The repeats get distorted - sort of like a tape delay, but with a gramophone or wax cylinder.
For me, this does everything that I want a delay to do. You can make music using only the pedal, you can get echoes, loop-like behavior suitable for Frippertronics-type things, it can go from subtle to overwhelming. What else could you want?
